Ohio Edison, The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. and Toledo Edison, all subsidiaries of Akron, Ohio-based FirstEnergy Corp., have filed a comprehensive generation supply plan with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio that is designed to support the goals outlined in Ohio's deregulation law and current state energy policies.
Among the plan's specifications is a renewable energy development system that would require a portion of the generation supply come from sources such as solar, wind and hydroelectric power.
The plan additionally provides for continuation of a proposed program that would offer customers renewable energy certificates, the utilities note. Under the proposal, suppliers would bid for portions of customers' supply needs equaling approximately 100 MW.
Other supply plan goals include protecting customers from generation price fluctuations and promoting energy efficiency.
