On Jan. 30, the Senate Finance Committee voted 14-7 in favor of an economic stimulus plan authored by Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., that includes an extension and modification of credit for the production of electricity from renewable resources. The proposed extension is for one year.

The Baucus legislation, which is slated for immediate consideration by the full Senate, would boost the U.S. economy with tax rebates for filers.

In a statement commending the proposed tax credit extension, Randall Swisher, executive director of the American Wind Energy Association, urged the Senate to move quickly to adopt the Finance Committee stimulus package

‘Rapid action is pivotal if wind, solar and other renewable energy industries are to continue to grow, attract large-scale manufacturing investment and create jobs for Americans across the country,’ says Swisher.
