The team behind the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm has celebrated the successful installation of the final turbine at the 389 MW project, located in the Irish Sea.
The offshore wind farm, which features 108 Siemens 3.6 MW turbines, is a 50/50 joint venture between DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables. The partners say commissioning work is well under way and expected to be finished by year-end.
Charlie Jordan, project director at ScottishPower Renewables, calls the final turbine installation "a fantastic achievement."
"We faced some very challenging conditions, including one of the stormiest winters in recent history, but managed to continue working on schedule," says Jordan. "Over 1,000 people have been employed on this project, and everyone has worked incredibly hard to help us reach this milestone. We look forward to fully completing the project by the end of the year."
