The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has updated its top 25 list of the largest national green power purchasers in the Green Power Partnership. The U.S. Air Force remains the number one purchaser of green power in the nation, but Wells Fargo has moved into the top corporate purchaser spot – ranking second overall.
Other movement on the list includes six new entrants – five of which are new to the partnership: Dupont Co. (No. 7), Vail Resorts (No. 9), California State University System (No. 19), the City of Austin, Texas (No. 21) and NatureWorks LLC (No. 23). Additionally, as a result of an increased purchase, SprintNextel made the top 25 list for the first time at No. 14, establishing itself as the leading green power purchaser among telecommunications companies.
The EPA says the actions of the top 25 partners help drive the development of new renewable energy sources. Combined, the top 25 purchases amount to nearly 4.7 billion kWh of green power annually.
