China-based smart energy solutions provider Envision Energy says it has made a significant investment in research and development in the U.S. with the establishment of its “global blade innovation center” in Boulder, Colo.

Kevin Standish, formerly chief engineer of blades at Siemens Wind in the U.S., will head the operations.

“As all energy capture begins with the blade of the wind turbine, Envision has placed special emphasis on this area of research,” Standish says. “Bringing blade design capability in-house will enable Envision to leverage a complete systems-engineering approach.”

Felix Zhang, Envision Energy’s executive director, adds, “This new center in Boulder will focus on blade design, which will drive innovation and enhance our capabilities significantly.”

Envision Energy notes it also has a global digital innovation lab in California’s Silicon Valley and a digital energy research center in Houston.
