Sens. John Ensign, R-N.V., and Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., have secured Senate passage of their Clean Energy Tax Stimulus Act, which extends incentives to encourage renewable energy, expands energy efficiency in buildings, homes and appliances, and helps stimulate the economy.

‘Today's 88-to-8 Senate floor vote on the Clean Energy Stimulus Act is a testament to the strong support for renewable energy across the political spectrum,’ said Gregory Wetstone, the American Wind Energy Association's senior director of governmental and public affairs, in a statement about the vote. ‘We look forward now to working with our many friends in the U.S. House of Representatives to move this bill forward, spurring economic growth and creating jobs even as we move to reduce global warming pollution.’

The act would extend the current production tax credit – set to expire at the end of this year – through the end of 2009.
