EDF EN Canada Inc., a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, and Enbridge Inc. have dedicated the 150 MW Massif du Sud wind project, located in Quebec.

Construction of Massif du Sud commenced in November 2011, and the project reached commercial operation on Jan. 18, 2013. The project consists of 75 REpower wind turbines and represents one of two Quebec wind farms jointly owned by EDF EN Canada and Enbridge.

Benoit Rigal, vice president of engineering and construction at EDF EN Canada, notes that the project teams had to overcome a number of challenges when building the wind farm.

‘Developing Massif du Sud in harmony with the regional park requirements, managing transportation of turbine components and constructing in less than 14 months – throughout winter, hunting and nesting seasons – is indeed an accomplishment to be recognized and celebrated," says Rigal.

Massif du Sud has a 20-year power purchase agreement with Hydro-Quebec.
