Calgary, Alberta-based EarthFirst Canada Inc. has announced that the government of Nova Scotia has approved an environmental assessment for the company's 45 MW Nuttby Mountain wind project, located in Colchester County.
Receiving the provincial permit is a significant milestone in EarthFirst's plans to move forward with this project. The timing of the approval is consistent with the development schedule for the project, with completed installation of the turbines currently planned for the end of 2009.
The company has a signed power purchase agreement and a completed interconnection feasibility study with Nova Scotia Power Inc. The next steps, prior to entering a construction phase, include finalizing turbine purchase arrangements, awaiting environmental approval from the federal government of Canada and any municipal permits that may be required.
