Goldwind USA has acquired the Musselshell wind project - which comprises two 10 MW wind farms located in Shawmut, Mont. - from Volkswind USA.

The project will feature 12 of Goldwind's permanent magnet direct-drive wind turbines. The concept for the Musselshell project originated with a landowner who worked with Volkswind to advance the project. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Volkswind has obtained all of the necessary permits for construction and secured power purchase and interconnection agreements with NorthWestern Energy. The project is expected to begin construction soon, with commercial operation expected as early as the third quarter, Goldwind says.
