Brookfield Power, a division of Toronto-headquartered Brookfield Asset Management Inc., has completed both phases of the Prince Wind Energy Project, located northwest of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The Prince Wind Energy Project comprises 126 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 189 MW - making it the largest wind farm in Canada, the company says. The first phase consisted of 99 turbines and the second, 90 turbines. Both phases of the project were awarded 20-year power supply agreements under the Ontario government's request for proposals for new renewable energy supply, Brookfield Power adds.

Construction of the wind farm began in September 2005 and created over 300 on-site jobs at its peak. The wind farm will produce enough renewable energy to power 40,000 homes on an annual basis.
