First New York City School Goes 100% Green Using Wind Energy

The Metropolitan Montessori School has become the first private elementary school in New York City to purchase renewable energy for 100% of its electricity supply through a contract with White Plains, N.Y.-based ConEdison Solutions, a utility that provides renewable energy, and Community Energy Inc., a Wayne, Pa.-headquartered marketer and developer of wind energy.

The school purchased 136,000 kWh of wind energy through Community Energy's NewWind Energy, a program that supplies energy from newly developed wind farms.

"By purchasing renewable green power for 100% of its electric energy requirements, the Metropolitan Montessori School is setting an excellent example for other educational institutions throughout the city and state," says Jorge Lopez, ConEdison Solutions' president and chief executive officer.
