Sequoia Energy Inc., a Winnipeg, Manitoba-based wind farm developer, recently received three Environmental Act Licenses from the Manitoba Conservation to develop three wind farm projects in the Canadian province.

According to the company, one of the requirements to build a wind farm in Manitoba is to receive a license under the Manitoba Environment Act. The conservation requires developers to do objective assessments of the environmental effects and to comply with the processes outlined in the act, which were completed by Winnepeg-based TetrES Consultants Inc.

The three wind farms include the Pembina Hills project, which will be located 7 kilometers west of the town of Miami; Killarney project, located 310 kilometers southwest of Winnipeg; and the Dacotah project, to be sited 30 kilometers west of Winnipeg along the TransCanada Highway. The total energy capacity of all three wind farms is estimated to be 300 MW - approximately 100 MW each - across a total of 68,320 acres of land. The total projected cost to develop the wind farms is $700 million.
