DMI Industries, a West Fargo, N.D.-based heavy steel manufacturer, has officially opened its newly refurbished wind tower facility in Fort Erie, Ontario.

According to DMI's president, Lars Moller, the new plant will generate additional jobs. It has already employed 110 people and expects to hire an additional 10 to 15 people by the end of 2006 - with the potential for up to 100 more by the end of 2007. The new facility positions DMI closer to its customers as well, helping to lower the costs of delivery and reduce the overall expense of wind energy development.

"DMI is pleased to be contributing to the economies in Ontario and North Dakota, while improving service and lowering costs for our customers," says Møller.

DMI acquired the Fort Erie plant in October 2005, and immediately began renovating and modernizing it for heavy steel wind tower fabrication. It has an annual capacity of 400 to 500 wind tower sections, with the potential to double that, the company adds.
