Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec, a financial institution that manages funds primarily for public and private pension and insurance plans, has invested $500 million in 1.5 GW of operating wind farms in the U.S. and Canada.

The wind farms are currently owned and operated by Invenergy Wind LLC. Following the transaction, Invenergy will remain the majority controlling shareholder.

Caisse will have a material financial interest in 11 wind projects in the U.S. and two wind projects in Canada. Included in this portfolio is the 138.6 MW Le Plateau wind farm, located in Quebec. The project is sited in the Gaspesie region of Quebec and has been in commercial operation since early 2012. The project sells all of its renewable energy to Hydro-Quebec under a long-term contract.
