Aggreko, a provider of temporary power generation, temperature control and oil-free compressed-air solutions, and ComRent International, a provider of load-bank rentals and services, have signed an agreement to provide a temporary power and load-bank solution to the wind energy industry.

The agreement, which covers the continental U.S. and Canada, enables Aggreko and ComRent to combine their efforts to offer wind turbine commissioning services to wind farm owners and operators.

Utilities that manage the grid where wind farms interconnect often require certification prior to grid operation - an often time-consuming and expensive process. Aggreko and ComRent say they have developed a solution that will establish realistic conditions in which the turbines are fully tested to their limits in a controlled environment prior to initial grid interconnection.

According to the companies, this will reduce the time needed to commission wind farms by testing all associated transformers and switchgear, as well as the substation.
