PGE Seeks Renewable Energy In Draft Request For Proposals

Portland General Electric Co. (PGE) has issued a draft request for proposals (RFP) that is expected to open for bids later this year. The RFP will seek output to help PGE comply with Oregon's renewable portfolio standard (RPS).

The RFP will seek approximately 101 average MW of renewable power, equivalent to the output of a wind farm with a nameplate capacity of 330 MW to 385 MW. PGE says it wants resources online by 2015, which is when the state's RPS will require that 15% of energy come from renewable resources.

PGE will hold two workshops to help inform interested parties and potential bidders and seek input on the draft RFP. Non-bidding stakeholders are invited to attend a workshop on July 16 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be an additional workshop later that day from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Both workshops will be held in the World Trade Center Conference Center in Portland.

The company intends to submit a final draft RFP to the Oregon Public Utility Commission on July 25. The commission will accept comments and a recommendation from its staff before deciding whether to allow the RFP to proceed.
