DONG Energy and project partners have inaugurated the 312 MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm, which is located 54 km from the German coast.

The project represents DONG Energy's first German offshore wind farm, and the company owns 50% of Borkum Riffgrund 1, while investors Kirkbi A/S and William Demant own the remaining 50%. The project features 78 Siemens wind turbines, each with a nominal capacity of 4 MW.

Thomas Thune Andersen, chairman of DONG's board of directors, says, "Borkum Riffgrund 1 is our first operational project in Germany, and I'm very satisfied with the fact that we can now harvest the fruits of the investment we have put into this project. I'm also very pleased with the confidence that our joint venture partners have shown us by investing in this project.’
