DONG Energy has selected MHI Vestas as the preferred supplier for the proposed delivery of the V164-8.0MW wind turbine for the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm, located in Germany.

According to DONG Energy, Borkum Riffgrund 2 – with an awarded grid capacity of 450 MW – is located in the North Sea, approximately 57 kilometers off the northwest coast of Germany.

DONG Energy expects to sign an agreement with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind later this year; however, it is conditional upon DONG Energy making a final investment decision on the Borkum Riffgrund 2 project.

The Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind project is located next to the 312 MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm, where DONG Energy has just installed the final wind turbine. The project is scheduled to be fully operational later this year.

In other developments involving the two firms, DONG Energy and MHI Vestas Offshore Wind have entered into a conditional agreement regarding Phase 1 of the 330 MW Walney Extension offshore wind farm.
