The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected the Alliance for Sustainable Energy LLC (ASE) as the next management contractor of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The new equally owned management entity pairs two nonprofit organizations – Midwest Research Institute and Battelle – in a partnership that will enhance NREL's leadership and provide a greater, more innovative impact on accelerating achievement of the national energy goals.
Upon conclusion of the 60-day transition period and completion of the existing contract, ASE will take over full management and operations responsibilities.
To increase NREL's impact on achieving national energy goals and to leverage the federal investment in the laboratory, ASE says it will invest significantly in the laboratory through the engagement of the state of Colorado and more than 20 other organizations and collaborators.
