Windreich AG has announced that construction has begun on the 400 MW Global Tech I wind farm, which will be located in the German North Sea.
The project will consist of 80 AREVA Wind M5000 wind turbines with an output of 5 MW each. The floating Alstom substation will be towed from the shipyard in Rotterdam to the 43 square-kilometer construction site.
Then, the first tripods will be shipped from their storage location on the ABC peninsula in Bremerhaven to the wind farm area 180 km away. Installation of the internal wind farm cabling will begin in the fall, and the project is scheduled to be complete at the end of 2013.
