Rep. Brian Higgins, D-N.Y., will be on hand as part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of Steel Winds II, the second phase of a wind project built on the shores of Lake Erie, on top of a brownfield left behind by an abandoned steel mill.
According to developer First Wind, the expansion of Steel Winds included the installation of six additional 2.5 MW turbines. With Steel Winds II now in commercial operation, the 35 MW cumulative project will help bring New York closer to achieving its goal of 30% renewable energy by 2015, the company says.
