enXco, an EdF Energies Nouvelles company, has revised the layout for its Desert Claim wind farm in order to provide more distance between the wind turbines and residences and to add wind turbines, according to David Steeb, project director. A revised application with the layout is expected to be delivered to the state Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council.
‘Our revised layout should support a project that will bring substantial benefits to Kittitas County and Washington state,’ says Steeb.
Under the revision, the wind farm would have 95 turbines, with 190 MW of potential capacity. The previous layout had 90 turbines, with an expected 180 MW of capacity. The revision also features a 75% reduction in the number of residences located within 2,500 feet of a wind turbine.
The study estimates that the project could generate up to $3.6 million in workers' payroll during construction and as much as $970,000 annually, once it is in operation.
Desert Claim's location continues to be one of the state's most advantageous for a wind farm, according to enXco. It is located in a transmission corridor, with several major transmission lines crossing the site.
