Toronto-based SkyPower Corp., a Lehman Brothers Co., and Scotian WindFields Inc., a community owned Nova Scotia company, have announced a 20-year power purchase agreement by Nova Scotia Power. The contract is to develop a 30 MW wind park in Digby, Nova Scotia.

The 2,700-acre wind park is expected to become operational in 2009. The Digby wind park is a key part of the Nova Scotia's plan to integrate renewable assets into its energy mix and will assist the province to meet its 2010 renewable energy targets.

‘This announcement represents the first major project to be developed through the use of community resources both in terms of funds and manpower in Nova Scotia,’ says Barry Zwicker, president and CEO of Scotian Windfields. ‘Community involvement and support is a major component for long-term success in the renewable energy business. It is important for local folks across the province to share in the development and the financial and environmental benefits of renewable energy projects.’
