Clipper Windpower Lays Off 174 Employees

Just weeks after being sold by United Technologies Corp. (UTC) to private equity firm Platinum Equity, wind turbine manufacturer Clipper Windpower has laid off 174 of its employees.

‘In response to continued challenges facing our industry and our company, Clipper management has been working on developing a sustainable business model with an emphasis on its service business,’ Christina Stowell, the company's human resources manager, confirmed in an emailed statement to NAW. ‘This effort requires a downsizing and refocusing of our operations, reducing the company's total workforce from 550 employees to 376.’

Stowell stresses that Clipper is not shuttering any of its production facilities or office locations.

"We are not closing any physical locations and are continuing to operate our production and assembly facilities in Cedar Rapids," she said. "The company is providing affected employees separation packages, including severance, healthcare benefits and outplacement services to ease the transition."
