CanWEA Releases Guide To Aid Wind Developers Eyeing Canadian Market

In conjunction with its 27th Annual Conference and Exhibition, the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) has released a comprehensive guidance document for developers planning wind energy projects in Canada.

Titled ‘An Introduction to Wind Energy Development in Canada,’ the guide is intended to be a key tool in providing information both to the public and wind energy developers that are not yet familiar with the Canadian wind development context. It is designed to aid municipal governments and community stakeholders in gaining a broader understanding of all aspects of wind energy development in Canada, CanWEA explains.

The document identifies vital issues in wind energy development – such as potential environmental impacts, safety issues and socioeconomic implications – as well as explains how these issues are addressed within the project development process.

‘Our members deal with a myriad of scientific, environmental and technical matters on a daily basis," says Robert Hornung, CanWEA's president. "This guide is aimed at informing the broad stakeholder community in Canada about the complex and diverse range of issues that must be considered in the course of responsible wind energy development. More importantly, it illustrates how responsible wind energy project developers use a variety of practical tools to ensure that these issues are adequately examined and addressed.’

The guidance document was a joint project involving CanWEA, Tetra Tech Inc. and Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP. The document can be found here.
