California ISO Lays Out Five-Year Strategy For Renewable Energy Integration

0

The California Independent System Operator Corp. (CAISO) has released its five-year strategic plan to integrate renewable energy – especially wind and solar power – onto its grid.

The plan focuses on integrating renewable sources of energy while ensuring continued reliability during the grid's transformation, which includes increased wind and solar generation, as well as a massive influx of electric vehicles, onto the grid.

CAISO's plan also aims to explore opportunities for regional collaboration and technological innovation, and acknowledges that advancements in technology – including distributed generation, such as storage, and smart grid developments – will reshape the grid and market operations.

As a supplement to the strategic plan, CAISO also developed an electricity road map, which simplifies the complexities of a cleaner power grid that continues to evolve to serve the people of California while strengthening security and reliability.
