Quebec-based Boralex Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire nine wind farms with an installed capacity of 10 MW each in the Windsor region of Ontario. Toronto-based Gengrowth will act as a partner in the development of these projects. Once completed, the projects will double the current wind power capacity of Boralex.
Each project benefits from an electricity sales contract signed within the framework of Ontario's standard offer program, Boralex says. All energy generated by the wind farms will be sold to the Ontario Power Authority under 20-year contracts. While Boralex has an installed capacity of 89 MW and another 14 MW under construction in France, the projects in Windsor will be the first the company will operate in Canada.
