E.ON has announced that Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions has been awarded a contract to install the cable on E.ON's Humber Gateway offshore wind farm.

The contract, worth about 19 million British pounds, will involve the design and installation of a 30 km section of underground 132 kV cable, which will be used to connect the Humber Gateway offshore wind farm to a new onshore substation at Hedon in East Yorkshire.

The wind farm, situated 8 km off the Yorkshire Coast close to the mouth of the Humber Estuary, will consist of a 73-turbine array that will generate up to 219 MW of electricity – enough energy to power up to 170,000 homes, according to E.ON.

Balfour Beatty will begin the cabling work this summer, and the Humber Gateway project is expected to be complete by spring 2015.
