Timmons Group, a Virginia-based engineering and technology firm, has chosen AXYS Technologies Inc. as a member of its team that recently was awarded a research project funded by the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) to explore new methods of metocean and offshore environmental monitoring.
In March, Gov. Terry McAuliffe, D-Va., announced research grants totaling $860,000 to four local companies, including Timmons, meant to help ‘give the state a competitive advantage and accelerate the development of offshore wind power and its associated industry supply chain.’
Timmons Group won a $250,000 award to develop a proof of concept for a commercial wide-area metocean and environmental monitoring program. AXYS will be providing comprehensive consultation services related to offshore wind resource assessment and remote sensing integration.
"We have a considerable wealth of experience with complex system integration and innovation in harsh marine conditions and are excited for the opportunity to be part of the Timmons team of experts and their significant project in the Virginia offshore wind power development," says Terry Tarle, AXYS president and CEO. "We look forward to realizing some practical solutions that will help to reduce the overall cost of harnessing wind power offshore."
