The American Wind Association (AWEA) has named four members – all from utility, financial and energy development companies – to its board of directors. The addition of these members to the board symbolizes the growing trend of large, well-known corporations becoming a part of the emerging wind power industry, AWEA says.
The association's new board members are Paul Bonavia, president, utilities group, Xcel Energy; John Eber, managing director, JPMorgan Capital; Bob Lukefahr, president, Power Americas, BP Alternative Energy; and Michael Polsky, chief executive officer, Invenergy. The new president of the board is Robert Gates, senior vice president of Clipper Windpower.
AWEA notes that its business members have increased from about 200 business members in 2000 to over 1,100.
‘We are delighted to welcome these new members,’ says Randall Swisher, executive director of AWEA. ‘This new board and its new president take the reins of the association at a time of exceptional growth and opportunity for the U.S. wind energy industry, and we look forward to the insight, experience and leadership that they will provide over the coming year.’
