Australian Government To Buy Output Of ACCIONA Wind Project

Having won a tender from the government of Victoria, Australia, ACCIONA Energy will begin construction of its Mt Gellibrand wind farm in Victoria early next year.

With an expected capacity of 132 MW, the wind farm will be located 65 kilometers west of Geelong and is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2018.

Andrew Thomson, ACCIONA Energy Oceania’s managing director, says the state government’s decision to purchase green energy certificates linked to 66 MW of the wind farm has secured the project’s future by driving job creation and investment in the region.

“This is very positive news for the growth of ACCIONA in Victoria, where we already operate the 192 MW Waubra wind farm and where we have a number of additional wind energy projects in development,” Thomson says.

Mt Gellibrand will be ACCIONA’s fourth wind farm in Australia. With a total of 302.5 MW in operational capacity, Australia is the company’s fourth-largest market after Spain, the U.S. and Mexico, says ACCIONA.
