AREVA Wind has introduced the M5000-135 offshore wind turbine – an extension of the company's M5000 product series.
The wind turbine features a new 135-meter rotor diameter, as well as a hybrid drive. Other improvements include an enhanced nacelle and better serviceability through condition monitoring atop the machine's built-in system redundancies, according to AREVA.
With the 66-meter-long, flexible offshore blades, which are 10 meters longer than the ones on the company's M5000-116 turbine model, the new turbine's swept area will increase by 35% to 14,326 square meters, AREVA says, adding that the new light nacelle design is adapted to harsh sea conditions.
Serial manufacturing of the M5000-135 is expected to begin in the second half of 2014.
