Alberta-based Climate Change and Emissions Management Corp. (CCEMC) – a not-for-profit, independent organization with a mandate to expand climate-change knowledge, develop new clean technologies and explore practical ways of implementing them – is making C$40 million in funding available for innovative renewable energy projects.
Targeted areas of interest include wind, geothermal, run-of-river and micro generation hydro, solar and biomass projects.
CCEMC will contribute up to one-half the project's total cash cost, to a maximum of C$10 million per project. No other government sources or offset credits may constitute part of the proponent's 50% contribution.
Applicants must demonstrate the innovative nature of their project. Projects can occur anywhere along the innovation chain, from early ideas to commercial deployment, and must conclude no more than three years from the time the contribution agreement with CCEMC is executed.
Eligible projects also must demonstrate an annual greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions profile and will be evaluated based on their ability to deliver significant and sustainable emissions reductions in Alberta. Projects selected to move to the full proposal stage will be required to supply detailed GHG-reduction information for review by CCEMC, and CCEMC requires that emissions reductions be verified after the project is complete.
