International law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has named John Marciano III a partner in the global project finance practice at the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.

Marciano, a transactional tax lawyer, focuses his practice predominantly on the power and infrastructure sectors, where he counsels clients on the tax and financing aspects of solar, wind, geothermal and biomass power generation facilities. In addition, Marciano advises businesses on capital raising and deployment strategies involving these assets, with particular emphasis on buying, selling and financing portfolios.

Also a writer and speaker on debt- and equity-structuring issues related to renewable power and infrastructure assets, Marciano will assume primary responsibility for Akin Gump’s renewable energy blog, the Tax Equity Telegraph.

“Particularly with Congress’ passage of the extension of the tax credits for wind, solar and other renewables and the Obama administration’s Clean Power Plan, the renewable power sector is poised to remain a major driver of our economy for several years to come,” notes Edward Zaelke, global project finance practice head at Akin Gump. “John is a tremendous addition to our expanding team and will be a great asset to our clients as they seek perspective to capitalize on opportunities and develop projects in the wind, solar, geothermal and biomass space.”
