Airhog Debuts Nitrogen Accumulator Charging System For Wind Turbines

Airhog Pneumatics, a supplier of portable high-pressure gas equipment, has released its nitrogen accumulator charging system, which has been developed specifically for the wind energy industry.

Airhog's portable Gaspac was designed to tackle one of the most dangerous, time-consuming and costly procedures on a wind farm: charging the nitrogen accumulators. The Gaspac, which consists of a 4,500-psi, 88-cubic-foot carbon-fiber air tank, weighs only 35 pounds yet holds as much usable nitrogen as a much larger and heavier steel cylinder, the company explains.

Furthermore, the Gaspac can easily be carried into the hub of most turbines, eliminating the need to hoist a steel cylinder or a 300-foot hose to the top of a turbine to charge its nitrogen accumulators, Airhog says, adding that the Gaspac can service up to four turbines a day using a two-person crew.
