Acciona Boosts U.S. Wind Portfolio With 93 MW Texas Project

Acciona Energia has acquired a 93 MW Texas wind project from developer Pioneer Green Energy and started construction work.

Located in Cameron County, the San Roman wind farm will feature 31 Acciona Windpower AW125/3000 turbines. Each turbine has a rotor diameter of 125 meters and will be mounted on an 87.5-meter steel tower.

Acciona says San Roman is the eighth wind farm the company owns in the U.S., bringing Acciona’s wind power capacity in the country to 721 MW. The new project will be operational toward the end of the year.

“The San Roman wind farm represents Acciona’s renewed investment activity in the important United States market,” says Acciona Energy North America CEO Ilya Hartmann. “We are working to grow our renewable energy portfolio in the U.S. and Canada, and the San Roman project is an important step toward that goal.”

Acciona expects this new installation to benefit from the recently passed long-term extension of the production tax credit, which the company says will give a great boost to the development of U.S. wind power.
