Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT has chosen ABB to supply an alternating-current power transmission link connecting Sandbank, an offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, to the high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) converter station SylWin alpha.

The Sandbank wind farm is situated around 90 km off the island of Sylt, and according to ABB, the link will have the capacity to transmit 288 MW of wind power. The connection will deploy two three-core 155 kV AC submarine cables, each 36 km long. The project is scheduled for completion in 2015.
